This is what the Andes look like. Only it's much better in real life. If the Coca tea they made us drink to prevent altitude sickness had anything to do with it, we really don't know.

2500 meters above sea level.

Vicunas, prettier and shyer than llamas.

4000 meters above sea level.

4800 meters above sea level. After a few steps here, we could hardly breath. The air is so thin that people with asthma are discouraged to come here.

The village of Chivay. The terraces, made 2500 years ago, are still used and we thank them for the lovely maiz.
