{"id":184,"date":"2007-11-08T17:18:48","date_gmt":"2007-11-08T15:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/2007\/11\/08\/crashing-firefox-goes-libcurl\/"},"modified":"2024-11-08T12:05:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-08T11:05:10","slug":"crashing-firefox-goes-libcurl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/2007\/11\/08\/crashing-firefox-goes-libcurl\/","title":{"rendered":"Crashing Firefox Goes libcurl"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I guess I haven&#8217;t been paying attention lately, but I stumbled over the <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/google-breakpad\/\">Breakpad<\/a> project, which incidentally is gonna be used as crash reporting tool for Firefox 3 (the original link to that is no longer working), and it uses libcurl (the original link to that quote is no longer working): &#8220;<em>On Linux, <a href=\"https:\/\/curl.se\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">libcurl<\/a> is used for this function, as it is the closest thing to a standard HTTP library available on that platform.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wording implies that it uses something else on Mac OS X, but I&#8217;m not aware of any standard HTTP library on it. Am I missing something or are they going libcurl there too?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, I wonder if using different HTTP libraries on different platforms instead of a single one isn&#8217;t just begging for more problems than what it solves? As far as I know, libcurl has a few upsides <a href=\"https:\/\/curl.se\/libcurl\/wininet.html\">compared to wininet<\/a> for example.
