It is 5.5 years ago since I bought my current work horse, a dual-core AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.8GHz) equipped thing.<a href=\"http:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Fractal-Design1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4493\" title=\"Fractal Design\" src=\"http:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Fractal-Design1.jpg\" alt=\"Fractal Design\" width=\"246\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Fractal-Design1.jpg 246w, https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Fractal-Design1-105x150.jpg 105w, https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Fractal-Design1-210x300.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/><\/a> I&#8217;m using my machine primarily for development. I never game. I decided to go for the higher end of what&#8217;s available to get me something to live with for several years to come.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Motherboard<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asus.com\/Motherboards\/Intel_Socket_1155\/P8Z77M\/\">Asus P8Z77-M<\/a>. Micro-ATX. Intel Z77 chipset.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CPU<\/strong>: Intel Core i7 3770K 3,5Ghz Socket 1155. This is a 22nm monster featuring 8 MB L3-cache<\/p>\n<p><strong>Memory<\/strong>: TridentX DDR3 PC19200\/2400MHz CL10 2x8GB. 16GB of ram.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HDD<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seagate.com\/internal-hard-drives\/desktop-hard-drives\/barracuda\/?sku=ST3000DM001\">Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 64MB 3TB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chassi<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/fractal-design.com\/?view=product&amp;prod=71\">Fractal Design Define R3 USB3<\/a>. See picture. Rather big and fits <em>a lot<\/em> more drives and stuff than what I have now&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SSD<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocztechnology.com\/ocz-vertex-4-sata-iii-2-5-ssd.html#overview\">OCZ Vertex 4 256GB<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>CPU cooler<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolermaster.co.uk\/product.php?category_id=2&amp;product_id=6775\">Cooler Master Hyper 412S<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Graphics<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asus.com\/Graphics_Cards\/AMD_Series\/EAH5450_SILENTDI512MD2LP\/\">ASUS Radeon HD5450 512MB<\/a> (very simple and cheap thing but supports 2560&#215;1600 which the MB doesn&#8217;t do)<\/p>\n<p><strong>PSU<\/strong>: Plexgear PS-500 500W<\/p>\n<p>(a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prisjakt.nu\/list.php?l=56611&amp;view=m\">prisjakt list<\/a> with the full setup)<\/p>\n<p>All in all, this has two 120mm chassi fans, one 135mm fan on the big CPU cooler and there&#8217;s one fan in the PSU. I hope they won&#8217;t be causing too much noise or problems for me. The rather low-end graphics should keep the total power consumption (and thus heat production) at a decent level. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4502\" title=\"ASUS p8z77-m\" src=\"http:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/p8z77-m.jpg\" alt=\"ASUS p8z77-m\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/p8z77-m.jpg 300w, https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/p8z77-m-150x93.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I purchased all the individual parts separately as I dislike how I can&#8217;t get an as optimized machine prebuilt from anywhere &#8211; I basically have to pay around 50% more, and then I still wouldn&#8217;t get the exact set of pieces I&#8217;d like. This way I also avoid the highly disturbing Microsoft tax prebuilt systems come with.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately I got some bad luck included too, as when I first put everything together and pressed the power button <em>nothing<\/em> happened. Well, a single led was turned on but nothing else happened.
