{"id":501,"date":"2009-01-09T20:22:06","date_gmt":"2009-01-09T19:22:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/?p=501"},"modified":"2024-01-09T09:02:03","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T08:02:03","slug":"ietf-http-state-group-created","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/2009\/01\/09\/ietf-http-state-group-created\/","title":{"rendered":"IETF http-state group created"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Over at the IETF another group was just created named http-state (with an associated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ietf.org\/mailman\/listinfo\/http-state\">mailing list<\/a>) with the specific goal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>Ultimately, the purpose of this group is to create an updated HTTP State Management Mechanism RFC (aka cookies) that will supersede the <a href=\"http:\/\/curl.haxx.se\/rfc\/cookie_spec.html\">Netscape spec<\/a>, RFCs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/rfc\/rfc2109.txt\">2109<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/rfc\/rfc2964.txt\">2964<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/rfc\/rfc2965.txt\">2965<\/a> then add in real-world usage (e.g. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.owasp.org\/index.php\/HTTPOnly\">HTTPOnly<\/a>), and possibly add in additional features and possibly merge in <a href=\"http:\/\/tools.ietf.org\/id\/draft-broyer-http-cookie-auth-00.txt\">draft-broyer-http-cookie-auth-00.txt <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ietf.org\/internet-drafts\/draft-pettersen-cookie-v2-03.txt\">draft-pettersen-cookie-v2-03.txt<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve joined the list and I hope to follow and participate in this, as I believe the current state of HTTP cookies is a rather sorry mess and the Netscape spec is still what closest describes how cookies work in the wild.
